I-24 westbound lanes now open after wreck

Update at 4:05 p.m.:

A dispatcher with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said the westbound lanes of Interstate 24 are now open.

Those lanes were blocked most of the day after a big rig overturned around 9 a.m. EDT, authorities said.

Once the wreckage was cleared, THP officials said crews with the Tennessee Department of Transportation inspected the road surface for damage and the road was reopened thereafter.

The accident, which involved only the tractor trailer, happened at mile marker 157, about halfway between the Jasper and Powells Crossroads exits, authorities said. The driver suffered minor injuries.

A Tennessee Highway Patrol dispatcher said at 3:15 p.m. today that officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation were checking on the condition of the road surface at the scene of a tractor trailer wreck on Interstate 24.

"As soon as TDOT determines it's OK, it'll be reopened," the dispatcher said.

The accident happened about 9 a.m. EDT at mile marker 157, between the Jasper and Powells Crossroads exits, and involved only the tractor trailer, authorities said. The driver suffered minor injuries.
