Lanes on Interstate 24 near the Old Ringgold Road overpass will be closed for construction this weekend.
Closures will begin tonight at 7 and continue through Monday at 6 a.m. to remove and replace a 500-foot section of failed concrete pavement, Tennessee Department of Transportation officials said in a media release.
Two lanes of traffic will stay open most hours, but between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. only one lane may be available.
Officials expect repairs to be completed this weekend and recommend that travelers avoid the stretch of interstate until then. If the project doesn’t finish on schedule, construction will be pushed back to the weekend of April 29-May 1 due to heavy traffic anticipated over Easter weekend of April 22-23.
The shutdown is part of a $5.3 million TDOT resurfacing and repair project of the stretch between the Missionary Ridge cut near South Crest Road to west of Chattanooga Creek across the Tennessee River from Moccasin Bend.
