Hamilton County's Sen. Bo Watson deserves congratulations for having been named to the prestigious and significant post of speaker pro tempore in the Tennessee Senate.

Watson, R-Hixson, was named by Republican Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey.

Now 50, Watson was elected to the Tennessee Senate in 2006. He is a fine gentleman of excellent character, good will and dedication to duty, which are important qualities for legislators to have.

Ramsey said: "It is rare that you find someone who works as hard for the people of Tennessee as Bo Watson. His tireless work on issues of government reform has been an inspiration to all of us ... ."

He praised Watson's efforts to make state government smaller and more efficient.

We commend Watson for this deserved recognition of his good service.
