Lookouts beat Mudcats in series opener, 8-5

ZEBULON, N.C. - The Chattanooga Lookouts snapped a two-game losing streak by winning 8-5 in Southern League baseball Saturday night against the Carolina Mudcats.

In the second inning the Lookouts' Pedro Baez hit a two-run home run to left field and Jamie Pedroza hit a two-run homer to right. Jessie Mier put the Lookouts (10-6) up 5-1 in the fourth with a bases-loaded single, and the lead grew to 8-1 in the eighth when a three-run outburst was highlighted by Scott Van Slyke's two-run double to center. Van Slyke went 2-for-4 to raise his average to .395.

Game two of a five-game series at Carolina is today at 2. Rubby De La Rosa (2-0, 1.80 ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Lookouts, with Justin Lehr (0-0, 10.81) listed for the Mudcats.
