For at least the second time in his police career, a Chattanooga police officer is under investigation for a drinking-related incident.

Officer Jeremy Isaac Williams recently was removed from patrol after he reportedly showed up at a training exercise after he consumed alcohol, according to a statement from the department.

Williams reportedly showed up to a firearms training exercise and smelled of alcohol, according to sources. When questioned, he denied he had consumed any alcohol. He was not tested and was sent home, sources said.

Williams could not be reached for comment.

With the department since 2008, Williams, 27, has been relieved of duty, according to an email sent out by Sgt. Jerri Weary, spokeswoman for the department. He is working in a "nonofficial" capacity pending the outcome of an internal investigation of the April 19 incident, she said.

In a prior incident, Williams was arrested on April 18, 2010, after he was involved in a crash and was allegedly intoxicated at the time. The department refused to specify any charges filed against Williams at the time, and there are no longer any Hamilton County court records available for the case.

Williams was released from jail within 45 minutes of being booked in, according to records. His charges were expunged after the case was dismissed.

The department conducted an internal investigation and sustained one count of conduct unbecoming against Williams. He was given a letter of reprimand.

Weary refused to comment on why Williams was only given a letter of reprimand and what disciplinary action he faces in the latest case.

She also did not respond when asked if Williams had any other prior disciplinary issues with the department.

Her only response to questions regarding Williams' background and the latest incident was, "This is an open, active investigation, and no other information is available."
