Dalton Allstars challenging CFC

Saturday, April 30, 2011

The Chattanooga Football Club will get a tough test this afternoon at Finley Stadium when it plays an exhibition game against the Dalton Allstars. Game time is 4 p.m.

The Dalton squad won the Chattanooga FC Cup, an eight-team tournament, on April 23 to earn the right to face the amateur club, which is beginning its third season.

Chattanooga FC manager Brian Crossman said he's excited about this season's team, which he said will have 11 new players on the 30-man roster. However, several potential starters have yet to join the team because they're finishing school.

"We're probably not going to have everybody here for a couple more weeks, so the team on the field [today] probably won't be the same as what you'll see later on," said Crossman, who directed CFC to the National Premier Soccer League championship game last season.

One player in a Dalton uniform who will be familiar to CFC fans is midfielder Luis Salazar, who played for CFC last season. Salazar is moving to California soon, so he won't be around to play for Chattanooga this summer.

Representatives from the Red Cross will be at Finley today accepting donations to help with the relief efforts following Wednesday's storms.
