Randall Kenneth ReedAn East Ridge man charged with using a slain 70-year-old woman's credits cards within a few hours of her death will go before a judge Sept. 21 for a possible settlement.
Randall Reed, 43, also is accused of suffocating and robbing Jane Stokes at her residence. He has been charged with first-degree murder and robbery charges, but has not been indicted.
He has been indicted on three counts of theft and three counts of fraudulent debit card after he reportedly withdrew money from Stokes' accounts.
Reed appeared before Criminal Court Judge Rebecca Stern on Friday morning for his arraignment via camera from the Hamilton County Jail. At the hearing, Reed was appointed a public defender to represent him on the theft and fraud charges.
With a prior arson conviction, Reed also violated his probation in light of the recent charges, police said.
He told authorities he did not kill Stokes and that he obtained the stolen cards from a drug dealer.
