You might have read that Chattanooga's big new Volkswagen manufacturing plant passed a milestone recently: It hired its 2,000th employee!
The worker, Amanda Sullivan, is from nearby Cleveland, VW officials said, and will work in the assembly shop.
But officials also pointed out these interesting facts about our local Volkswagen plant:
Ninety-five percent of its employees are from Tennessee.
Seventy-five percent of the workers are from Hamilton County.
It is expected that hiring at VW will continue through fall, and will reach roughly 2,300 workers.
Chattanooga, Hamilton County and the surrounding region are reaping major economic benefits from VW's presence. But that didn't just "happen." It was brought about by cooperative government, private and community efforts that made this an attractive area for a large industrial investment.
We salute all those who had a part, however big or small, in creating that inviting atmosphere.
