East Ridge police have nabbed a man they say is responsible for a rash of vehicle burglaries in the Mission Oaks subdivision.

Marvin Lee Hines, 37, was arrested Thursday afternoon after police initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle he was riding in, according to police spokesman Officer Erik Hopkins.

The car had been listed as a possible suspect vehicle linked to the series of car burglaries, Hopkins said. As the car pulled to a stop, the driver jumped out of the vehicle and ran away. Officers were unable to apprehend him but detained Hines, who was wearing gloves and had a screwdriver in his lap, said Hopkins.

Hines was taken into custody at the Hamilton County Jail where he has been charged with burglary of an auto, illegal possession of a credit card and possession of burglary tools.

He is scheduled to appear in East Ridge Municipal Court on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Hopkins said the investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.
