Sports/college physicals

MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinics inside select CVs/pharmacy stores are offering vaccinations and sports physicals seven days a week. No appointment necessary. Vaccinations offered for secondary school and college are pertussis (whooping cough), meningitis and Human Papillomavirus (HPV), among others. Check to see if your insurance covers the specific vaccination. Sports physicals are also offered which provides an overall assessment of physical condition to be sure child isn't at risk for illness or injury. Physicals offered to college students as part of pre-admission requirements. Cost without insurance is $39 through Sept. 30. Visit these MinuteClinics: 8034 E. Alzheimer's free driving assessments

The Alzheimer's Association has driving assessment grant money available for Georgia residents diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease to assist families in paying for the driving assessment by a driver rehabilitation specialist at Siskin Hospital. Free service by American Cancer Society teaching female cancer patients beauty techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Myeloma meeting

Weight loss surgery

  • Free surgical weight management seminar. Learn about The Weight Loss Program at Erlanger, Monday, 6-8 p.m. at Erlanger East (Gunbarrel Road).   • The Gastric Band Institute will hold a free seminar on gastric banding (Lap-Band ad Realize Band) and the new "sleeve" procedure for people who are 75 pounds overweight. Diabetes

Diabetes basics and diet class. This program provides an overview of diabetes and treatment/prevention of complications, diabetes meal planning and carbohydrate counting. Breastfeeding

Parkridge East Hospital's breastfeeding class tonight, 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m.-12 noon, is designed for first-time moms or veterans. Topics include physiology of breastfeeding, advantages, successful techniques, etc. Explanation of support services will be discussed. Products available for sale includs bras, pumps, and accessories. Father/support person encouraged to attend but not required. Fee: $15/couple.
