Children's choirs set audition dates

Organizers of children's choirs in Cleveland and in Rhea County announce dates for upcoming auditions.

Lee University Children's Chorale will hold auditions in Cleveland, Tenn., on Saturday, Sept. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon, and Thursday, Sept. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m.

The children's choir was established in 1996 to provide supplemental singing experiences for children in grades 3-8. The chorale is under the direction of Sarah Phillips Burris, music educator at Hopewell Elementary School.

Students should be prepared to sing the first verse of "America," often known as "My Country 'tis of Thee," in the audition.

Tuition is $100 for the semester, and parents are responsible for purchasing a uniform. Rehearsals will be Monday evenings from 6 to 7:30 in the Curtsinger Music Building beginning on Sept. 12.

Schedule an audition by calling 614-8256.

* In Rhea County, Tenn., the Bryan College Community Children's Choir will hold auditions Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 4 p.m. in the college's Rudd Auditorium chorale room.

The choir is open to students in grades 5-8. Selected students are required to attend weekly rehearsals on Mondays from 4:15 to 5 p.m. beginning Sept. 12.
