An inmate was killed today after being attacked by at least one other inmate at the Hays State Prison in Trion, Ga., the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Spokesman Vernon Keenan of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the agency is trying to determine the motive for the attack and who was involved.

The slain inmate's identity was not provided, pending notification of next of kin.

"The inmate died after having been assaulted by other inmates," Keenan said. "We will not identify any of the perpetrators until we bring charges against them."
