Smokies whip Chattanooga Lookouts with six-run fifth

KODAK, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Smokies scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and beat the visiting Chattanooga Lookouts 9-2 in Southern League baseball Monday night. The Smokies are 33-24 in the second half of the season, now within a game and a half of the first-place Lookouts (34-22).

Chattanooga took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning on Alfredo Silverio's two-out single to right field that scored Brian Cavazos-Galvez, but then Lookouts starting pitcher Michael Antonini was tagged for the six runs. Rebel Ridling had the big blow with a three-run home run to center, and Nate Samson capped the outburst with a two-out single to center that scored Josh Vitters and Blake Lalli.

In the sixth, Lalli had a two-run single to center that put the Smokies up 8-1.

Game three of the five-game series is tonight at 7:15. Chris Withrow (4-6, 4.55 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Lookouts, with Ryan Searle (5-2, 3.49) scheduled for the Smokies.

Lookouts right fielder Alex Castellanos was named Monday as the Southern League hitter of the week after going 13-for-30 (.433) with seven doubles, a triple and a home run.
