Two boys lit a mattress on fire today, leaving a family of eight temporarily without a home, officials say.
The investigation hasn’t been finished so it's unclear whether the boys live at the house or if the fire was intentional, said Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman Bruce Garner.
Chattanooga firefighters arrived at the home at 2109 E. 12th St. about 3 p.m. and found a mattress on fire in a bedroom, Garner said.
They were able to keep the fire in the bedroom, but the rest of the house suffered smoke damage, he said.
No one was home at the time of the fire, he said, and its cause is still being investigated.
The American Red Cross was called in to provide assistance to the family, he said.

The 2 young hoods, live there, found lighter in moms purse, then set fire to mattress. Really nice upbringing!!!!!
Hanna, you are the worse kind of idiot. These were children and children of all colors who live in all neighborhoods play with matches, lighters and fire. This has nothing to do with upbringing, but rather fire education. So should people condemn the little surburban kids who drown in their parents' pools? Of course not! An ADULT would realize that no child is exempt from dangers related to discovery. Not mine and certainly not yours. So take that to your surburban pool and float in it.
