AUBURN, Ala. - To say newlyweds Melisa and Matt Montgomery are Auburn fans would be an understatement.

He proposed at the BCS National Championship game, and on Saturday, the couple became the first to get married on Samford Lawn in an Auburn-University themed wedding.

"We are huge fans, so it was perfect," Melisa, 27, said of the engagement

When the couple was planning the wedding, he had one request: to be married in front of Samford Hall.

His request coincided with the university's recent decision to allow couples to marry in front of the iconic building.

"Getting married in front of Samford is perfect for us," she said.

So on Saturday, Melisa walked down the aisle wearing navy blue shoes with her wedding dress and carrying orange flowers. Her bridesmaids wore navy blue dresses, while Matt's groomsmen wore orange vests with their black tuxedos.

"We are both absolutely huge Auburn fans," Melisa told the Opelika-Auburn News in an interview before the wedding. "We love Auburn - everything about it: not just the football, but the city and everything."

Matt, 30, is a graduate of Auburn and works at the university while Melisa does website design for the Big Blue Bookstore.

Guests at the wedding received Auburn shakers, which they waved as the couple left the wedding.

While Melisa walked down the aisle to Train's "Marry Me," the couple chose to leave to Auburn's fight song.
