“American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery and runner-up Lauren Alaina are among a cast of country music superstars who will sing tonight on the television special “CMA Country Christmas.” The show airs from 9 to 11 p.m. on ABC (Comcast channel 10).
Lauren will perform “My Grown-Up Christmas List,” a ballad written by David Foster with lyrics by Linda Jenner. The song was originally recorded by Natalie Cole, but Amy Grant is the singer credited with making it famous in 1992. Kelly Clarkson’s cover of it in 2003 renewed interest in the holiday song.
“It’s a song I really love, so I was really happy when it was suggested to me,” Lauren said in a recent phone interview.
The Christmas special will be hosted by Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles. Also performing will be Amy Grant, Faith Hill, Little Big Town, Martina McBride, Kellie Pickler, Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley and Vince Gill singing a duet with Miss Piggy.
