Tea party not as Pitts depicts

Tea party not as Pitts depicts

Leonard Pitts Jr. never lets a column go by without an outrageous attack on the tea party. Pitts suggests that we have "a pitchforks-and-torches mentality. They don't just oppose health care reform, they shout 'Let him die.'"

Pitts calls tea party members "virulently anti-government, anti-Muslim, anti-gay, anti-science, anti-tax, anti-facts, and most of all racist."

He accuses us of throwing "rocks through windows, threats against legislators ..." Next he suggests that we will blow up buildings. If one tells a lie often enough, the lie becomes the truth in the minds of many.

Not once during six trips to Washington, D.C., did I throw any rocks or threaten any legislator. I am not anti-government. On the contrary, anti-government means anarchy, and I am not an anarchist. Of the thousands of tea partiers that I have marched with, none have thrown rocks or even talked of blowing up buildings. I challenge the media to back up their claims. find one instance of rocks thrown or legislators threatened or even a tea party demonstrator arrested. The tea party believes in fiscal responsibility, limited government and obeying the Constitution. It's time for the media to stop being political hacks for the Democratic Party.

Major (Ret.), USA

Catoosa County

President working for middle class

After reading Mr. Kristof's commentary (Nov. 29), my mind drifted to this past Thanksgiving when I was blessed to have all of my children in our home. Among them was my daughter, a mediocre and lazy teacher, who brought some essays and quizzes to grade since she does not have enough planning time to plan or to grade the numerous assignments she collects at school.

I give her advice from time to time about her credit card debt that she has run up mainly to purchase supplies that excellent and hardworking parents do not purchase for their children.

Our president pushed legislative changes in the credit industry. Before President Obama, when my daughter paid more than the minimum amount on her credit card, the excess would go automatically to the lowest interest loan. After President Obama's changes, any amount above the minimum payment must go now to the highest interest loan. My daughter will pay off her loan faster and at less cost to her.

In a time when conservatives work to dismantle our government's commitment to use our tax dollars to provide protections from corporate interests, it is nice to have a president who is working for the middle class.

Mr. Smith - it appears you have been drinking the Obama Kool-Aid just as the Tea Partiers have been drinking the Faux News Kool Aid. One is red, the other blue. The tasteless poison is equally effective in either case. One group marches under the red flag, the other under a blue flag. But it matters not what color flag you march under because the corporocratic band is playing the same tune either way. Just as you are unaware of the poison in your Kool Aid, you don't see the poison pouring into the body politic - i.e. stealth corporate funding of candidates which makes the role of voters nearly moot, turning them into political zombies who will pull the lever for whichever party has more successfully propagandized them. The rest of the industrialized world stands shocked and awed at the way American government has been corrupted and at the clueless gang of Repugnant ideologues seeking office as candidates for White House corporate sock puppet, er, President.

Read this and tell us how confident you are that the democrats have been better for America than the red coated rethugs:

I feel what you are saying librul right up to the part; "the rest of the industrialized world stands shocked and awed at the way American government has been corrupted..." My word, have you recently looked at most of the rest of the industrialized world and what is going on with their "clean" governments?" As long as powermongers get theirs, no matter where in the world it may be, they are good.

There is no Tea Party. It is a diffuse movement without leaders. It is generally very socially conservative, and it has galvanized anger at government as its theme. Of course, there is plenty to be upset about, especially since government has been corrupted by those who are running the Tea Party. So the Tea Party is funded and managed by fat-cat elites and they don’t have the same interests as Joe six-pack.

They want to dismantle our government to generate more profits for them, not to give you more opportunities to pursue the American Dream, not to give you more freedom, nor to offer those freedoms to our future generations. So, they’ll let you have all the guns you want, all the televangelist churches you want, all the freedom you want to blame illegal immigrants, blacks, jews and gays for everything that is wrong.

In exchange, they’ll take away government programs that provide a safety net to all of us, rich and poor alike. So, no more social security, medicare, medicaid, public schools, etc. And, don’t expect to have a job – unless you want to move to China or India. They won’t give you minimum wage, Joe. There won’t be a minimum wage.

You’ll be one helluva angry mess when you realize that you’ve given away your heritage as an American, and the American Dream just to express your frustration and to be able to carry a concealed gun and have criminals executed. You’ll be able to talk about the good old days, just a bit, when you go to work in your nice little corporate cubicle or assembly work station, happy to have your $4 an hour job, with your corporate employer aware of every keystroke on your computer, every word you whisper from your work station. No freedom of speech at work, Joe! Nobody to protect your health, your environment, your rights, Joe! And there is no Tea Party to turn to for help, or to get back your freedom, Joe. Remember, there is no Tea Party.

Excellent comment, acerigger. I couldn't have said it any better so I won't even try. Im afraid, however, that the teabagging libertarian contrarians who post here with regularity do not have ears to hear or eyes to see. They wouldn't recognize the truth if it bit 'em on the butt. They are too far gone, too busy sucking up to the corportate fat cats and the super rich to realize how bad they are being screwed, even as they suck up to them. I don't know what it will take to finally get them to see but by the time they do - IF they ever do - it will probably be too late.

Wow thanks Acerigger for showing how much space you can waste by saying nothing. Here is the link for the group that does not exist I guess you did not pay attention to how his post ended. It states he is a retired military person. Now it could be just be me but I do not for one second think that a person that served our country and defended it's rights will just be willing to give them away so quickly. That may just be my way of thinking though. I may not have all the insight that you have. It amazes me how some only search out information that pertains to their side of an discussion instead of getting all the facts. But when you wake up from your little fantasy world maybe you and your followers can eat some of the horse meat your great party now wants you to.

In case you haven't noticed (and obviously you haven't), there are just as many, if not more, military vets joining forces with the 99%ers and the Occupy movement as with the teabaggers. That "little fantasy world" you speak of....maybe you will wake up from your own one day soon?

Wow, did I say that no former military persons were "NOT" joining in on the Occupy movement? NO I did not!! I just responded to a person saying there was no Tea Party movement. So yes I have noticed. I also noticed you should really fully read a post before you respond and make your self look foolish.

For anyone who can't remember the Pitts editorial that Major Fletcher is referring to, I believe it was published in the TFP back on October 1st. I happen to live in a hot bed of TEA Party followers and Mr. Pitts' description was, in my experience, accurate. Major Fletcher's description of fellow members would certainly be an exception here. That being said, Mr. Pitts writes thought provoking editorials. He doesn't represent the "media" any more than TEA Party writers do. I appreciate the freedoms that Major Fletcher defended in his career, including freedom of the press. Thank you!

Mr. JEFFREY FLETCHER, the core beliefs and intentions of the Tea Party are everything and then some of what Mr. Pitts described. The tea party was financed by a wealthy Texan and managed by the wife of a supreme court justice whose goal was to get Obama impeached, even if it meant destroying America and Americans in the process. The blind sheeple who followed along believing the founders of the tea party had their best interest at are now having to face reality.

Poor people do not hire people. You can not spend your way out of debt. If you want socialist gov. go some where else to live (take the illegal aliens with you). If you can prove any bad things came out of a Tea Party event, PROVE IT. Have you not heard of the rape, public defication, use of drugs, public nudity at the Occupy movements?
