Motlow sweeps Chatt State

Motlow State defeated Chattanooga State's visiting basketball teams Friday night, 61-58 in the women's game and 83-81 in the men's, and will host Cleveland State in a TCCAA doubleheader this afternoon.

Motlow's Lady Bucks are 4-4 overall, 2-2 in the league, and left the Lady Tigers at 4-3, 2-3. The Bucks (7-3, 2-2) had an 18-point lead with 15 minutes to play and held on as the Tigers (6-2, 3-2) surged.

In a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader at Mobile, Lee's men lost 70-52 but the Lee Lady Flames rose to 8-0 with a 76-58 win featuring 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists by Hollie German, 17 points and four assists by Kally Eldridge, 15 points by Angela Spann, 11 points and nine rebounds by Karley Miller and four steals by the other starter, Rachel Lockhart. Alice Honnery had 13 points, 13 rebounds, nine blocked shots and seven assists for Mobile.

Antonio Hester had 31 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field and 11-of-12 free-throw success for the Mobile men (3-3, 1-2), and he had 16 rebounds with nine on the offensive backboards. Alex Wells had 15 points and nine rebounds and Tyrone Caldwell and Ryan Westbrooks added 13 and 11 points for the Flames (4-1, 2-1), with Caldwell adding seven assists.

In Great South Athletic Conference women's play at Salem College, Jessie Blankenship had 17 points and 11 rebounds in a 58-41 victory for Covenant. Christine Core and Margaret Cross added 13 and 12 points and Hannah Craft had nine rebounds in the win, and freshman point guard Morgan Woodward contributed five assists.

In a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Memphis, Rhodes edged the Sewanee women 65-61 and defeated the male Tigers 77-62. Dana Middleton and Alex Ginsburg scored 14 and 10 points for the Sewanee women, who got eight rebounds from Kayla Sewell. Sharwil Bell had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Lynx.

Michael Gallagher's 19 points paced the Rhodes men. Valentino Bryant and Lewis Affronti scored 15 each for Sewanee, and Tyler Brown had eight rebounds with nine points.
