Pedestrian struck in Dalton, Ga., hospitalized in stable condition

A pedestrian hit early this morning in Dalton, Ga., is hospitalized and listed in stable condition, police said.

Lamar Hooper, 47, of Cedartown, Ga., was struck at about 12:16 a.m. when he was walking on the north bypass just south of Chattanooga Avenue, authorities said.

Hooper was wearing dark clothes, and it was raining when the crash occurred, Dalton Police Department spokesman Steve Zahn said.

Officers had been dispatched to the area minutes before the crash on reports that a man was walking on the roadway, Zahn said. When police arrived the driver was dialing 911, he said.

Zahn said the name of the driver has been withheld until the crash investigation is more complete. He said it's too early to say if the driver will face any charges.
