Rain should continue to drizzle in Hamilton County today, then couple with colder temperatures.

With rain starting Monday, 1.57 inches had fallen in the area by about 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to Doug Schneider, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Morristown, Tenn.

About an inch of rain is expected to fall between Tuesday and today, according to Derek Eisentrout, another meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

So far this year, Chattanooga has received 58.49 inches of rainfall, or 10.02 inches above normal, Eisentrout said.

WRCB-TV Channel 3 meteorologist Paul Barys said that once the current rain stops it'll be Tuesday before any precipitation is in the forecast.

Starting today, temperatures should drop with lows of about 30 degrees to high in the mid-40s, and Friday will fluctuate from freezing to 50 degrees.

Today, temperatures will drop throughout the day with the high in the mid-40s coming in the morning, Schneider.

A snow and rain mixture may fall today after 4 p.m., but Schneider said it will only last for an hour or two, with no snow accumulation due to the warmth of the ground in the city.

On the mountains and anywhere above 1,500 feet, Barys said, there will be about a half-inch of snow on the grass.
