Looking for the perfect gift for the lady gardener in your life?
Professional gardener and designer Nell Foster, founder of Joy Us, a California-based company that specializes in gardening tools and accessories, recently introduced a line of gardening products for women.
From "cushy" knee pads to functional aprons, gardening equipment can be fashionable, Foster said.
"I am a professional gardener, and I couldn't find anything that was stylish and durable on the market. So, I decided to do my own line," Foster said in a telephone interview. "Gardening is such a wonderful hobby for women, especially as we get older."
Foster's products are made in America, she said. "The only thing that's in my products that aren't manufactured in America is the jute trim," she said.
Denim is her signature fabric, she said.
"I use denim because most gardeners wear jeans. It's durable and sustainable to the environment. We make our products so they will last and don't end up in a landfill six months after purchase."
Foster's line of accessories, available exclusively online at www.joyusgarden.com, includes gardening bags, aprons, tool pouches and kneepads.
FIVE PRODUCTS
1. Kneepads. "On Your Kneez Pleez" kneepads, $39.99, provide stylish comfort and cushioning to your knees while gardening. The kneepads contain high-end, mini-cell bun foam.
2. Full-length apron. The "Edna" apron, named after Australian landscape designer Edna Wailing, has five deep pockets, a key clip and an adjustable neck strap, $49.99.
3. Half apron. The Vita half apron, named after English author, poet and gardener Vita Sackville-West, has six deep pockets and ties around the waist, $37.95.
4. Garden tote. The LadyBug denim garden bags, $59.99, are available in black or blue and are versatile enough to take with you beyond the garden.
5. Tool pouches. Designed to compliment and fit easily into the LadyBug garden bag, $22.99, the lightweight tool pouch snaps onto a belt or belt loop. The waterproof and puncture- and abrasion-resistant pouch is lined with a tough fabric that holds its shape, yet gives in just the right ways. Foster said she also uses the tool pouch as a cell phone and camera holder when she travels.
