about Clay Bennett...
The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Who would Obama and democrats prefer, other than no one, be the republican candidate, Gingrich or Romney? They should avoid attacking the one they prefer and attack the one they don't want. I hope Trump,s planned debate with him as moderator collapses due to lack of interest and participation. Trump's agenda is to be president without being president and promoting his name brand. He is the most egotistical self aggrandizing individual that is given way too much media attention and time. Who really gives a rip about what he thinks about anything? He needs to be told "you're fired". Why does the media keep ignoring Huntsman and Paul?
Good morning Harp..I believe they said it best many years ago, "...the answer me friend is blowing in the wind...." And with as much 'hot air' as the entire Republican slate has been stirring up the past several months it could still be a while before we can come up with a definitive answer to your question.
But to be perfectly honest..I wouldn't trust any of them as far as I could pick them up and throw them..especially Newt and, yes, even Bachmann..Woody
No, Harp, Obama needs to be told "you're fired"
If gingrich's tattoo is that large and on his arm, Obama's "me" tattoo is as big as a dinner plate and on his backside.
Obama's ego is about as bloated as it gets. Don't tell me Obama's agenda was not to be "to be president and promote his name brand."
Trump's ego is no more bloated than any other politician. The difference between Obama and other politicians with bloated egos is that Obama came into it with no portfolio and a media backing him up.
Look at how offended the liberal media is by Trump's attempt to host a debate. Why shouldn't he host one? Why should Democrat leaning media types always host Republican debates, or any debates. They're not journalists anymore, they're just tools of the left.
Trust me, lumpy - the left would enjoy nothing more than Trump hosting a Republican debate.
Please, please, please . . .
The next presidential election is the Republicans to lose, and with the way the primaries are shaping up they are trying their best to lose it. Go Newt!
Why does the media keep ignoring Huntsman and Paul? Because they are Decent truthful Men,who are probaly smarter too, but their social views will prevent them from becoming President. You know Newt is going to say "I'm against abortion and Civil Rights and all the other lies, that he's this and that, when every one, who is smart enough to recognize and know its a damn lie.
Dana Milbank's piece today is on how Gingrich's tactics are now coming back to haunt him by his own party. The piece brought up a famous memo by Gingrich and Frank Luntz in which they said to call your opponent: “anti,” “betray,” “bizarre,” “corrupt,” “destructive,” “disgrace,” “shame,” “lie,” “pathetic,” “radical,” “self-serving,” “selfish,” “shallow,” “shame,” “sick,” “traitors.” All of these are common place in Republican wedge politics. Heck, you can even find them used here against Clay and his supporters at this cartoon. It is a shameful tactic, but he taught his minions well. Now Gingrich is getting a taste of his own medicine by his own party.
Former Sen. Jim Tallent of MO called him too "radical". Rep. Peter King added a few more goodies to the vocabularty to describe Newt when he spoke with Capital News: undisciplined, unprofessional, pedantic, condescending, superficial, and unfocused. His fellow former congressman Guy Molinari called Newt "evil". Well, well isn't this rich? Can't wait for Gingrich to be the nominee.
Newt and Callista will just shrug off all the evil naysayers. He has too big of an ego to let the likes of idiots, such as Peter King and Jim Tallent, get in the way of his reach for the nomination.

Really?? Have you watched in any of the debates? They have been like open comedy night at the Improv. The sad thing is from the looks of it Obama will have another 4 years in office by default.
I wish the Trump debate would use a Celebrity Roast format, and that they would invite Charlie Sheen. Better yet, they should put them all on the same bus and travel the country, like a reality show. I can see Ron Paul trying to get the driver to take a different route, Perry wanting to spray paint the "n" word on the vanquished Herman Cain's driveway entrance, Newt wanting to stop at every single Denny's, Bachmann hogging the restroom, Huntsman trying to hit on one of Mitt's wives... sort of a madcap adventure with unpredictable results, except for the season finale in which the bus ends up jumping a guard rail and lands in Tampa Bay. Watch out BW48!
lumpy already said it.
As for Newt, all the Republican haters should be bowing to this guy. Now think back to who proposed the balanced budget during "The Willie" years. Why it was Newtie as his mother always liked to call him. And the great President Clinton didn't want anything to do with it but in the end he inked the document and you all hail him for his great accomplishment. So Newt should be your man. And as for putting his penis where some say it dosen't belong, once again he is a perfect fit for your moral expectations of America's president seeing that you have none. So after the dust settles next year, if we see Newtie with his hand on a bible repeating the presidential Mumbo Jumbo we are sure to know who put him there. It will just be our little secret. I promise not to tell!

I can't argue with that but I would add Obama and his minions to the list. I guess I should say "I never met a politician I didn't dislike". It appears those capable and qualified are too intelligent and successful to consider entering politics.
With our history of electing the next generation and family members I wonder if Obama wins four more years and we survive it if Michelle will be a candidate in 2016?
If this debate with Trump and Gingrich goes off it will have to be held outdoors.
Not a hall in Iowa big enough to hold their swollen heads!!
Newt need not worry about "turnip" Trump's questions since Trump can't be quiet long enough for anyone to answer. Trump answers a question before it is asked. It could be labeled a battle of giant egos. Trump should sue the person doing his hair, it is awful, perhaps John Edwards could tell him who his $500 per visit hair dresser was. I would pay $500 to shear that orange mop. He can't pursue Newt's marriage history since his is not great. The poor guy thinks people like him and are not just sucking up to his money. My preference would be put a muzzle on Trump and treat the campaign seriously. Why should he have a public forum to criticize the president and some of the candidates. His conceited position of if the republicans don't pick the right candidate he may run as an independent is ridiculous. The republicans should encourage him to go back to being a democrat.
The debate will turn into a contest between Trump and Gingrich to see who's the biggest self-promoter.
Santorum will be lucky if he's even seen on camera, much less get a chance to speak!!
what newt should tattoo on his arm is "POTUS"cause that's what he's is gonna be!!
get used to it!
The repugnant motto "ME"
One thing, there is no new material about Newt...the news media has beat that horse to death over the last 5-10 years. At least he is Not Mitt.
The ObamaNation, now, he shows another side of his stupidity every day....between his golfing and vacationing, of course. There are thousands of good cartoons about his idiocy...and those who voted for him.
Here's a couple examples:

hey tin soldger, the more you post on here the more you tell me you ain't NEVER been in uniform!periot!maybe a remf!!
Hey! Welcome back, rolando... again! Once again you prove yourself to be an angry, rash man who makes threats he can't back up, forswearing this thread forever and trashing the people who post here, then crawling back as if anyone here would give a tinker's cuss what's on your mind. What'd you do, get tired of posting rants about garbage pickup or something?
jesse... how many of the 1% you defend have worn a uniform, by your reckoning?
You Trump haters make me laugh. Do you really believe he's that much different than the other preening self-promoters in both parties? Obama is the ultimate preening self-promoter. Obama was born with a "me" attitude, and he was enabled by everyone around him. Do you think Trump would make a bigger mockery of the White House or the House than Obama and Pelosi have? It already is a circus.
Most journalists are clowns pretending to be objective. The vast majority of politicians are just taking up space. To believe Trump couldn't do either job better is just ridiculous.
every swingin whatcha ma callet in politics is a phoney ass! the sooner the common man picks up on this the sooner they will realalise that ITS OVER!!elect newt, elect berac! it don't matter! the SYSTEM is putting the country deep down in a hole and niether the populace nor the folks we elected to fix it have the means or the guts to do what has to be done to get the country back on track!AND if they did you can be sure that joe blow would vote then out of office if they had the audacity to actualy try to get us out of this MESS we are in!!
jesse, I rarely agree with you but this once. Any politician who puts the Country ahead of his career is history.
Where was this type of scrutiny when it came to Obama in '08? The only reason he got the nomination is because he's half&half. Half&half and socialist! The lib media's dream candidate.
He certainly didn't get it for his brains. Obama's and Biden's IQ combined wouldn't equal Newt's or Trumps.
Newt-Trump '12 My Lord that would piss you Democrats off.
chattanoogatennesseeusa wrote: "Where was this type of scrutiny when it came to Obama in '08?"
Oh, but there was that kind of scrutiny performed. All you had to do was to tune into Fox News and into any conservative talk show on the air for more than a year leading up to the election.
The difference at the time was that the scrutiny consisted of lies told about Obama. They were rampant, relentless, reckless, and they were rejected by most of the people of this nation.
The lies continue to this day. And he will triumph over them again next November.
Bennett....the one string banjo
I'll bet $10,000 that Mitt Romney is a rich, elitist pig! How can he be that arrogant/stupid?
a gingrich- paul ticket would send obama-biden so far back into the woods we would have to airlift food to them!!
the LAST thing the country needs is trump in elected office of any sort!(just the thought of that scares the bejesus outta me!!)
if trump was elected pres. his FIRST ACT would be to have his face put on the $100.00 dollar bill!
THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS DEVOURING ITSELF
The fact that Newt is still relevant should scare the hell out normal republican voters. The GOP is fractured and is in serious danger of becoming extinct.
There's a battle going on between the tea party conservatives, the libertarians, and the evangelicals. Candidates are gulping down each brand of conservative Kool-Aid in order to secure the republican nomination but the november election will provide a sobering 'morning after' moment.
Good grief, in order for Romney to still win this thing has has to run to THE RIGHT OF NEWT GINGRICH! The parade of NRs (not Romney) has been laughable, though highly entertaining from the other side of the aisle.
Take immigration for instance. George Bush got it right: he knew he needed at least 42% of the hispanic vote to win in 2000 and that's what he got. In 2004 he got 44% hispanic support and needed every vote. How did McCain do? By 2008, thanks to tea party firebrands targeting illegal immigration, McCain only received 29% of the hispanic vote and lost badly.
Since then severe laws (that some have called anti-hispanic) were passed by republican controlled Arizona and Alabama, et.al., which has further weakened hispanic support for the GOP.
Regardless of how you feel about our immigration policy, serious politicians understand the importance of every single vote. That's one reason why republican heavy hitters decided to sit out this election. Chris Christy, Mitch Daniels, Jeb Bush, Haley Barber, etc., knew that A) it's tough to beat an incumbent president, and B) the GOP would need to get a good butt whipping to snap it back to political relevance.
Democrats went through their own 'purity' phase when they nominated George McGovern, Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, and Michael Dukakis. Bill Clinton managed to drag democrats back to the middle of the political road and 'triangulated' many republican positions.
Until the GOP power struggle results in a clear cut winner, you'll continue to see more cartoons like this one. And the question is no longer, 'Who will lead the republican party in the next election?' It's now, 'Who's driving the clown car?'

No doubt he could excel at preening, self promotion and space occupancy than any of those in or seeking office. If you don't think he is the greatest at anything you name just ask him. A conclusion that I don't like Trump would be accurate.
LibDem said... jesse, I rarely agree with you but this once. Any politician who puts the Country ahead of his career is history. Reply: LibDem, in my opinion we have a lot of "players" involved/participating in several/many different situations. When the Republicans took over in 2001. Why did they not have any intentions of balancing the budget or attempting to pay down the National Debt? I'll bet somebody will come up with the reasons.
We have discussed just about all of the negative decisions that were made and what happened during the eight years of the Bush W. years, without regard to the effects on this Country and the people. I am still shocked with the total negative attitude of the Republicans in conjunction other opponents, not helping President Obama in stabilizing the 2007 deep recession for the good of this Republic. The fraud which occurred in the housing financial loan systems along with the effects of the global economy, helped speed up the plans of the Republicans in depressing the wages and benefits citizen workers. Why are the Republicans not helping get the private sector jobs back in the USA instead of attacking the bargaining rights of the manufacturing Union workers and the Public workers? Why are the Republicans always blaming President Obama for not helping create more manufacturing jobs here, when they are doing everything to hinder him to help the private sectors to reinvest in manufacturing plants here. What are the American consumers doing to help reverse the trade deficit with the global corporations other than running out of money?
Trump spent all his credibility when he claimed to be able to prove that President Obama wasn't born in Hawaii. I'm betting that's the reason the candidates are bowing out of the debate he's trying to host along with NewsMax, that appears to be dead on arrival at this point.
The fact that Newt Gingrich agreed early on to be a part of it tells me quite a bit about his own credibility. You're known by the company you keep.
His performance at tonight's debate was entirely defensive, which he claimed he was not going be led into doing. He couldn't resist.
The one surprise in the debate came when Rick Perry defended Newt's position on the "Palestinian people were invented" remark.
Mitt Romney and Ron Paul scored big in tonight's debate, but I'm afraid that Gingrich may well hold onto the lead.
If that holds, there are going to be a great many Republicans who are going to have to hold their noses when they cast their votes in three weeks.
I find it funny as all get out that the Tea Party is starting to embrace Gingrich. They are going to be sorely mistaken if they think that he will represent Tea Partiers if elected.
Newt is an old style Washington politician, through and through. He'll turn his back on them the minute he gets their votes. Right now he's shining them on for political posture and they're falling for it.
Ha. Same for our current President, of course. But 75% of GOP voters want not-Romney, and not-Romney has come down to Newt, so he'll be nominated. And since President Obama is doing so lousily, Newt'll probably be elected. And since he's a smart, underrated man with a lot of better theories than our current President, he'll probably improve our country a bit. Compare resumes: Speaker Gingrich found deficits and left a balanced budget, President Obama found deficits and enlarged them. G got welfare reform through with some Democratic cooperation. Obamacare was party-line vote. G's economy did OK. O's economy has gotten worse since he took office. Eh?
I hear what you're saying, Andy, but can Mr. Gingrich deal with the loss of power? Stepping down from Speaker to President? Dedicating bridges instead of controlling the economy?
Yeah, dude, the truth hurts, doesn't it? Something you libtards cannot "abide". No wonder you so frequently shoot the messenger...
Besides, garbage is something these toons deal in...and libtards love to roll in.
AndrewLohr wrote: "Compare resumes: Speaker Gingrich found deficits and left a balanced budget, President Obama found deficits and enlarged them. G got welfare reform through with some Democratic cooperation."
Andrew, you're bearing false witness again. Newt Gingrich was forced into passing balanced budgets TWICE by Bill Clinton, who shut-down portions of the Government rather than to sign deficit spending bills and banned Newt to the back of Air-Force one before Newt began to see the light.
Welfare reform was also Bill Clinton's baby as well. He campaigned on ending welfare as a lifetime mainstay. In fact, Clinton vetoed two first attempts at passing welfare reform bills crafted by the Republican dominated Congress, because they went too far.
Newt absolutely negotiated with Clinton on the third bill, which the President eventually signed into law in 1996, but Newt also had to convince a great many of his fellow Republicans to vote for that third bill too.
"Obamacare was party-line vote."
For the most part, that is true, but then the Republicans are beholden to the medical lobby of this nation, which is trying their level best to protect the immense obscene profits that are a part of the medical establishment in this nation. They are absolutely in favor of keeping things as they are, which is shameful.
"G's economy did OK. O's economy has gotten worse since he took office. Eh?"
You're comparing a former Speaker of the House to a President, as if their jobs and responsibilities were one and the same?
And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the economy of this nation is in far better shape since President Obama took office.
Your logic is legendary.

...the economy of this nation is the economy of this nation is in far better shape since President Obama took office.
There you go again, alprova.
Exactly how is our economy "in far better shape since President Obama took office"? Hm-m-m?
Newt Gingrich is a liar and a cheat just like Herman Cain. The only difference is their races. You can't trust either one to tell the truth. Newt is nothing more than a hypocritical charlatan. He may very well win the Republican Nomination because the extremist wing of the Republican Party is desperately willing to give him a chance over Mitt Romney. If he does win then the extremist hijacking of the Republican Party will be complete and they can expect to lose not only the White House but also the House of Reps and more seats in the U.S. Senate. Go Newt.
Rolando asked: "Exactly how is our economy "in far better shape since President Obama took office"? Hm-m-m?"
There are ten indicators that prove that the economy is indeed improving;
"Rise in Expensive Equipment Sales" - In the technology sector, large servers and other expensive electronic equipment have increased. The purchase of specialized medical testing equipment by hospitals and labs have also increased.
"Housing Prices No Longer in Freefall" - According to the Brookings Institution, in the third quarter of 2010, housing prices rose in 80 of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S.
"Advertising Sales Are Growing" - The advertising industry is not expecting a miraculous turnaround, but analysts predict a 2.5 percent increase in U.S. advertising sales in 2011.
"Factory Production is Increasing" - The Ford Motor Company plans to increase factory production by 13 percent in response to a 27 percent increase in the number of individual buyers in January of 2011. General Motors also reported record profits in 2010 as well.
"Record Corporate Profits" - Standard & Poor's 500 Index shows 2010 was the third-best year for corporations since 1998. Even adjusted for inflation, corporate profits show a 17 percent increase.
"Retail Sales Are Recovering" - The National Retail Federation's 2011 economic forecast predicts a 4 percent increase in retail sales. Retail growth has enjoyed seven months of continual growth. Recent reports indicate that both in-store and internet sales this Christmas season are up.
"Unemployment Is Declining" - Unemployment has recently dropped back to below the level it was when President Obama assumed the Presidency. It stood at 8.8% on that day. It currently stands at 8.6%.
"Jobs are Gaining" - The unemployment rate fell by 0.4 percentage point to 8.6 percent in November, and non-farm payroll employment rose by 120,000, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on December 2, 2011.
"The Weak Dollar Is Boosting The Economy" - One of the beneficial things about a weak dollar is that it helps American manufacturers. When their products become less expensive for the rest of the world, they can export more goods, boosting sales and their overall bottom line.
"Economists Say The Economy Is Improving" - The majority of economists surveyed felt that, despite weak areas, the U.S. economy was poised for modest growth.
