Chattanooga police have arrested a 24-year-old woman in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old girl in College Hill Courts last night.

The charges against Temekia Deshon Reed have not been released.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary said the incident occurred when a group of 20 or more women began fighting about a dispute over money.

The women had previously had run-ins over the matter and it came to a head around 6 p.m. Monday in the 1300 block of Poplar Street Court, Weary said.

At some point during the melee, Shaviya Vinson was stabbed in the chest and became unresponsive on the scene. She was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, Weary said.

"Investigators from various division of the department worked feverishly throughout the night to piece together exactly what happened and who all was involved. The incident that precipitated this event is still be investigated," Weary said.
