Merry Christmas

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

What trickles through a bureaucracy that's better-paid than the average American? Transfer payments to the top 50% increase inequality rather than reducing it. Fire bureaucrats: reduce inequality (of power as well as money). Cut at least upward transfer payments: fast trains, corporate welfare...The big shots of the Gentiles call themselves benefactors, said Jesus, hinting that He could find something else to call them.

The only way that this economy is going to improve is if the middle class is restored to a previous state that existed before GWB's tenure.

This means raises in pay for those who have jobs, the creation of good paying jobs for those who do not have them, and most of all, it means a reversal of all the negativity being demonstrated by our nation's leaders.

For more than a decade, the Republicans have worked feverishly to put the majority of this nation's wealth into the bank accounts of those who have aplenty, who have done a fine job of sitting on it.

Putting money into the the hands of those most likely to spend it for the goods and services that makes this country thrive makes much more sense.

The more that the Republicans sit on their hands and refuse to work with the Democrats in moving this nation forward, the less likely they will be re-elected next year.

Tall talk about not raising taxes on those with plenty, by claiming that they are job creators is not going to cut it any longer. Tax rates and tax breaks are in place today, to foster and encourage job creation, and still they are not working.

The only way at this point to right the wrongs of the past thirty years is to create an environment to persuade businesses to return to America. This means allowing capital being held off-shore to return to this country without penalties or taxes being assessed against it. This means special tax rates and tax breaks given to companies that reinvest such capital in creating private sector American jobs.

Companies that do these things should be exempted and protected forever from any attempt by unions to organize and to represent employees, which also has been responsible for running good jobs out of this country.

And finally, to boost sales by companies that do reinvest in American workers, a marketing campaign needs to be revived that involves advertising goods by such companies to Americans as being American made.

The above would be a win-win situation for everyone and if both political parties would work together to work to create such an environment immediately, this country would start to boom again in a matter of months.

The longer that middle and lower income classes have to deal with the current job market, the longer this country will continue to suffer. Pumping money back into this nation and putting it into the pockets of those most likely to spend it, only makes perfect sense.

It has been evolving to this point at least thirty years and it has not been unique to either party. Few people and few politicians acknowledge that we, the consumer, pay any legislatively imposed cost to a business. This does not mean some are not necessary to assure appropriate safety health and environmental regulation and enforcement. The tax system, subsidies and other manipulation is difficult to end but should be.

I personally think the fair tax proposal along with improved training and pay for American workers with consumers finally realizing paying a few pennies more if necessary for "American made" is a good investment that keeps more people working and more tax revenue reducing their personal taxes. The irony of it is that more people working and paying taxes reduces spending for those unable to provide for themselves. My only real issue with the fair tax is abolishing the IRS instead of changing their role to vigilant auditing and assuring proper collection and submission of taxes.

I haven't seen but would like to see anyone in either party advocating what you posted as a means of addressing the economic dilemma.

Looks like John of Orange(Boehner) has painted himself into a corner. Evidently he thought he had enough votes in the House of Reps to get the Senate payroll tax cut extension proposal through but it hasn't happened so now they are trying to out manuever the Dems by pushing the bill to a Conference Committee without taking an up or down vote on it in the House of Reps. If nothing happens then on Jan. 1st over 160 million Americans will see a DECREASE in the amount of money they are bringing home in their paychecks IF they EVEN have a job and over 2 million will lose their unemployment benefits. Should Boehner allow that to happen it won't matter who wins the Iowa caucuses or the New Hampshire primary it will all be over for the Repubs. The Dems will retain control of the White House, the U.S. Senate and regain control of the House of Representatives.

When it comes right down to it, Nancy Pelosi was far better at keeping the Dems in check than Boehner has been able to do with his tea party Repubs calling the shots. It will be interesting to see how John of Orange gets them out of this pickle barrel.

Harp, Ireland now allows U.S. corporations to harbor profits at a corporate tax rate of 12 1/2 percent. If America lowered its corporate tax rate to the same rate, you can bet those companies would skip to another country or open a mail box account in Bermuda that offered 12 percent or less. Your federal legislators allowed this to happen. As a result, corporations have semt thousands upon thousands of job to foreign countries not only to avoid their duty to pay U.S. income taxes, but to avoid environemntal and job safety regulations--regulations that Republicans decry as stifling "job creators." Supply side economics was a hoax from the beginning in the 1980s. What you now have today as an economic crisis is a result of that. It created a climate where profits are capitalized and losses are socialized. It also transformed the democracy we once had into the oligarchy in which we are now trapped. If we don't have reasonable regulations to control the financial institutions and other industries that practice "profit without reason," they will continue defraud Americans. They do not have the will or the pressure to police themselves.

THE LAW IS THE LAW

TQ is attempting to nitpick his way to a 'gotcha' moment. Blind rage and pointless anger have obviously soured him beyond any semblance of reason. He quoted me earlier saying:

I guess Newt was talking your language when he promised to arrest judges he didn't agree with and throw them in jail.

Go ahead and produce a quote from Gingrich, TQ fumed, that he would have judges thrown in jail. You can't and you won't because that is just some more of your B.S. ravings.

What Gingrich said was that, as President, he would send U.S. Marshals to arrest judges and bring them before Congressional hearings to answer for their ruling(s).

Okay, first of all the President does not have subpoena power. That's the pervue of Congress, so maybe Newt is campaigning for the office of tyrannical dictator. Second, this is how the law reads:

The chamber of Congress in question has the power to direct the Sergeant at Arms to arrest someone, bring them before the chamber, and put them in jail, all without seeing the inside of a courtroom.

So, assuming President Gingrich could shred the Constitution, order the Justice Department to arrest Judges and haul them before Congressional hearings, one must also assume he could, as the law states clearly, 'put them in jail.'

Besides, you are quibbling over semantics. Aren't you the least bit bothered by a presidential candidate who promises to intimidate judges? An independent judiciary is the cement that holds together our system of government. There are laws on the books that deal with judges that really and truly abuse their authority.

Judges must be free of ideological intimidation. They are entrusted to rule only on the Law. If you disagree with a lower court ruling you can appeal the decision all the way to the Supreme Court. If you're still confused about how laws can be interpreted differently by different judges, try to remember the last time the Supreme Court ruled 9 - 0.

Was I directly quoting Gingrich earlier? No, BUT jail time is within the legal guidelines of persons under subpoena to appear before Congress. Instead of attacking me, why don't you defend Gingrich?

So you’re saying that if the U.S. lowered its corporate tax rate to equal the one in Ireland it would so upset and frighten American corporations that they would move those profits to another country with an even lower tax rate. Now my question is, If there is another country with lower tax rates than Ireland, that the corporation could move their profits to, what in the #^%% are they still doing in Ireland? 1-The business rate should be zero. Whatever a business pays in taxes and all the accountants to file them becomes part of the price consumers pay.

2-Your federal leadership can't prevent anyone from taking their money and business where it is treated best. They didn't allow it they caused it and continue doing so.

3-Some regulations are essential but the manner and the cost of the government administering them are far too costly to tax payers. There is nothing illegal in what has been done in relocating businesses out of this country. Money earned outside of the United States can be held outside of the United States forever.

Under our current tax codes, money brought back into this country by legitimate residents, is taxed like ordinary income.

My proposal is to allow business people interested in investing in American jobs, by re-opening existing manufacturing facilities or building or opening new manufacturing plants, along with the hiring of American workers to be allowed to import that money tax-free, to give them an incentive to do so.

"Sounds like a repugnant idea."

It probably is, but that's what it's going to take to rebuild the manufacturing base in this country once again. A reversal and assurance given to those that reinvest in American workers, that they will be able to prosper without high taxation, is the right kind of incentive to accomplish the goal of fostering a return to a booming economy.

Under our laws of taxation, money earned from business enterprises set up in other countries is not taxable, unless it winds up in domestic bank accounts or unless it is accessible to a United States citizen to be spent domestically.

"I am sick of the rich not EVER being subjected to the laws you and I are in a fair way. You try hiding money and see what they do to you."

It's not hiding of money. I'm talking about money legally earned through businesses located out of this country. Owners of such businesses are under no obligation to the IRS to pay taxes on such earnings so long as they never cross our borders.

financial model. Show us how it has balanced the Budget, injected more money into the economy, and led to prosperity for everyone. What has been the most positive result of supply side economics?

su_perfluous and dimbo are conspicuously absent, maybe rush or beck will have a good lesson on trickle down today

Blackwater48....boo hoo...boo..hoo. You can dish it out but can't take it. So sensitive.... If you want to compare brain pans go for it. I don't have time to check every little grammar problem with my posts. I have a job.

As far as creativity and writing skill, anyone can use the spell checker if they have time.

The main problem with you is that your "opinions" are off the Move-On.org site or MSNBC. I, on the other hand, criticize both parties. Anyone with a 90 IQ can see that they both lie, spend too much money, don't care about the constitution and are dishonest. Both parties and their apologists can go to hell

Now make a pithy comeback and show us how smart you are. (I mean, how smart the person you got your "opinions" from.
