Four jailers have been placed on administrative leave after allegations of policy violations involving drugs.

The officers were placed on paid leave Tuesday and an internal investigation was opened, Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond said Thursday.

The allegations involve three female and one male corrections officers, but Hammond declined to give the jailers' names or say whether the allegations involved drugs in the workplace.

"At this time, we're not sure what all is involved," Hammond said. "There's sufficient reasons to suspend them with pay."

He said he expects results from the investigation some time next week, but criminal charges are not pending at this time.

None of the jailers was from this month's graduating class at the county's corrections academy, when 10 officers were sworn in.

All together, 10 Hamilton County jailers have faced criminal charges or allegations of violating jail policies this year. Three were arrested on charges that included domestic assault and sexual battery; two resigned in the middle of the investigations; and five were disciplined for policy violations.

Those numbers compare to eight investigations last year, when one officer was terminated during a probationary period, six were suspended and one was arrested.

Two of the jailers who were arrested had charges dropped.
