Huffman named as VP of directors
Qsource, a Tennessee-based nonprofit health-care quality improvement and information technology consultancy, has elected Erlanger Health System's chief medical officer, R. Cyrus Huffman, as vice chairman of Qsource's board of directors.
Dr. Huffman has served as senior vice president of Erlanger since 2007. He is an internal medicine physician and leads Erlanger's systemwide patient safety and quality initiatives.
Dr. Huffman has served on the Qsource board since 2009. He also serves on the quality committee of the Tennessee Hospital Association and the city and county's Regional Health Council.
"Qsource is part of a well-integrated, patient-centered national strategy for improving health care quality through better patient care, better population health and lowering overall health-care costs through improvement," said Dawn Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of Qsource, "We've identified effective strategies that help providers deliver safer, more effective care."
Timblin to direct BlueCross strategy
Danny Timblin has been named vice president of strategy and execution for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.
In this new role, Timblin is focusing on strategic business initiatives, change management, performance against operating plans, and assessing new business and technology opportunities.
"Danny's expertise and experience at BlueCross will be invaluable as our company and our industry evolve in the reform environment," said Bill Gracey, president and chief operating officer for BlueCross. "He has played a vital role in the development of our strategy and is well-suited to keep the company on track for meeting targets and pursuing new opportunities."
Timblin joined BlueCross in 2006 to support the company's corporate development department, which includes strategic investments, as well as all merger and acquisition activity. In 2007, he was promoted to director of strategic services and in 2008 was promoted to vice president and treasurer. In those roles, he has overseen corporate strategy and development, investment management, operating and capital budgeting, and corporate planning and forecasting.
Prior to joining BlueCross, Timblin worked for Lucent Technologies, OFS Fitel (a division of Furukawa Electric of Japan) and Deutsche Bank.
Headrick, Stringer earn certifications
Unum Corp. employees Teresa Headrick, director of training for individual disability administration, and Myron Stringer, individual disability administration manager, recently received professional certifications.
Headrick earned the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance credential from the American Society for Training and Development. This distinction recognizes a professional's understanding of the nine areas of expertise as outlined in the ASTD Competency Model.
Stringer was recognized by The American College of Bryn Mawr, Pa., as a Chartered Life Underwriter. Candidates for a CLU distinction must complete a minimum of eight courses and 16 hours of exams.
Dahl joins Propex to head sales group
Robert F. Dahl II has joined Propex Inc. as vice president of sales for specialty products.
Dahl comes to Propex from Fiberweb, where as vice president of specialty products he led growth of the building materials, geotextiles, and defense business units, with primary focus on North American markets. Prior to that, he spent 18 years with DuPont, building experience in a range of sales, marketing and management roles.
"As Propex grows, we are investing in people and technologies that will create sustainable value in the market," said Ralph Bruno, executive vice president of sales and marketing. "With Bob's extensive experience in managing specialty products, he is a natural fit in this growth initiative."
In his position, Dahl will build upon the company's leadership position in Brazil and Mexico to expand throughout the Americas, with a focus on performance fabrics for flexible intermediate bulk containers and specialty packaging.
Dahl is a graduate of Virginia Tech and Wilmington University and also a certified Six Sigma Green Belt.
Cornerstone Bank adds 2 managers
Shawn Rogers, a 15-year bank veteran, is joining Cornerstone Bank as a senior vice president and relationship manager at its East Ridge branch. He has earned degrees from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, the LSU Graduate School of Banking and Middle Tennessee State University, where he played collegiate basketball.
Rogers and his wife live in Chickamauga, Ga., and have two daughters. He is a board member of Junior Achievement Chattanooga and the North Georgia YMCA.
Lynn Vandergriff brings nearly 40 years of banking experience and nearly 10 years with the FDIC's division of liquidation to his new position as Cornerstone's special assets officer. Vandergriff and his family spent the last 25 years in Nashville before moving back to Hixson in 2010.
He attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and has taken numerous FDIC-sponsored seminars and courses. He and his wife of 34 years reside in the Hixson area and have two grown daughters.
Chinery joins the Hutton Co.
Spencer Chinery has joined the Hutton Co. as vice president of financial services.
Chinery will oversee accounting and property management functions as well as establish and maintain all lender relationships and perform other capital market duties for Hutton Co. and Hutton Construction, said Geoff Smith, Hutton Co. president.
Chinery recently served as chief financial officer for Greenlife Grocery and director of financial analysis and planning for The Krystal Co.
He received his master's and bachelor's degrees in business administration from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
"Spencer will be a tremendous asset to our team as we continue to grow our development, real estate, and construction companies," said Smith.
McDaniel named manager at STS
Southern Tool Steel, a full line steel service center specializing in cut pieces, has promoted Tommy McDaniel to warehouse assistant manager.
McDaniel will be responsible for planning and directing the storage, processing, and distribution operations of STS's Hixson warehouse.
"Tommy demonstrates an exceptional attitude and I'm happy to promote him into this newly created position. He has shown exceptional commitment to our company and outstanding leadership skills which make him an ideal candidate for this job," said Matthew Lundholm, Southern Tool Steel's warehouse manager.
McDaniel, 35, joined the company in 2004 as a truck delivery driver. He graduated from Hixson High School and attended Chattanooga State Community College.
TVA's IT manager among top leaders
Computerworld magazine has named a Tennessee Valley Authority executive to its annual list of 100 top corporate leaders in information technology.
Dan Traynor, TVA's chief information officer, will be recognized in the Feb. 27 issue of the magazine and on Computerworld.com.
Traynor is responsible for leveraging technology and setting strategies for TVA's information resources. He became TVA's vice president and chief information officer in April 2010 after a 32-year career with Southern Co.
