The case against a 21-year-old Chattanooga gang member accused of inflicting multiple skull fractures in a beating has had his case sent to the Hamilton County grand jury this morning.

Quindell Ray, who police say is a validated member of the Gangsta Disciples, is charged with one count of assault and one count of aggravated assault in connection with the Nov. 26 beating of Ronald Strickland.

General Sessions Court Judge David Bales sent Ray's case to the grand jury after hearing testimony today from Strickland's wife, Laniece, who works at the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

She testified that she and her husband were visiting a family member's house at 2400 Fourth Ave. when they were jumped by three men. The beating, she said, was in response to her husband testifiying against another Gangsta Disciple, 19-year-old Dominic Wright.

It wasn't clear what charges were facing Wright.

Ronald Strickland suffered multiple skull fractures and facial paralysis from the attack, according to police reports.

His wife said doctors told her he won't be able to eat solid foods or speak for about nine more weeks.
