DeKalb County sheriff's deputies have arrested a 27-year-old registered sex offender from Florida who, with his wife, was visiting a friend in Crossville, Ala.

Deputies charged Christopher Rodgers, of St. Cloud, Fla., with a probation violation and failure to comply with sex offender registration laws.

A Florida probation officer notified the sheriff's office Tuesday that Rodgers was traveling to Crossville, according to a news release.

On Wednesday, a probation violation warrant was issued from Osceola County, Fla.

DeKalb County officers found Rodgers at the friend's residence, hiding in the attic.

Rodgers remains in the DeKalb County Detention Center awaiting an extradition hearing.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris said the arrest "illustrates the benefits of having uniform sex offender laws from state to state."

"Because of that conformity, we are able to better protect our citizens across jurisdictional lines and react quickly to address violations, no matter where they are occurring," he said.
