Corey was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his medical degree at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He served his medical and surgical residency at Baroness Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. He also had been a clinical assistant professor at the University of Tennessee Clinical Education Center. He served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force.

Corey was chairman of the Campaign for Children at T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital Foundation.

He was named king of the Cotton Ball in 1998 and was active in civic affairs.

Corey is survived by his wife, Virginia, and their children, grandchildren and other family members. He was a member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church.

He will be remembered as a dedicated physician who gave great personal attention to his young patients, and also as a leader in our community.
