Defending NCAA Division I champion Penn State heads the 22-team field in the Southern Scuffle wrestling tournament being hosted Sunday and Monday by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in McKenzie Arena. Penn State, currently ranked fifth, tied for the Scuffle title last season at Greensboro, N.C., with currently fourth-ranked Cornell, which also is in the 2012 field. Third-ranked Minnesota and Oregon State are among the other national powers taking part. Tickets are available for $15 per day, or $5 for ages 17-under, at www.gomocs.com or 266-6627. • Excellent weather for this time of year is expected this evening for the 33rd annual Karen Lawrence Run for St. Jude. The main four-mile road race begins at 5:30 p.m. on the Broad Street side of the downtown Sports Barn, and two-mile run and walk options start at 5. On-site registration will be available; entry costs $30. Last year's race set an event record with about $35,000 raised for the children's research hospital. The race honors the memory of a local girl who was treated there.

• BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- The Tennessee Wesleyan women's basketball team lost 81-72 to Indiana University Southeast in the second day of the Union College Classic on Friday. Two second-half surges carried the Grenadiers (12-5) to victory, including a 9-0 run to a 75-65 advantage with 1:29 to go. Ashmere Woods hit 13 of 14 free throws in scoring 21 points for the winners, while Megan Murphy had 18 points and Heather Wheat added 14 points with six assists. Cody Houck had 17 points and four assists, Heather Gibson scored 13 points and Michelle Davis and Candace Cain tallied 11 apiece for Wesleyan (7-5), while Leah Frazier had nine assists.
• SALEM, Va. -- Joey Danek had 16 points and nine rebounds for Covenant College, but the Scots lost 81-63 to Roanoke College in NCAA Division III basketball Friday. Reserves Rosbie Mutcherson and Colton McGriff added 11 and 10 points, McGriff with seven rebounds, for Covenant (4-7), which shot 29.6 percent from the field despite Danek's 7-for-8 performance. Logan Singleton scored 21 points and Kwasi Amponsah had 15 points and five steals for Roanoke (3-6), which shot 51.8 percent.
• UPLAND, Ind. -- Huntington University built a 10-point lead in the second half and held on for a 57-54 victory over Bryan College in the Taylor University women's basketball tournament Friday night. Liesl Davenport and Allison Greene had 20 and 18 points and four and three steals for Huntington (8-4), which made 15 of 23 free throws while Bryan (10-2) was sinking seven of eight. Morgan Burnette had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Lions, who face Taylor today, but Sarah Newton was next in scoring with nine points.
