Dalton: Adhesives company to locate in Carbondale park

DALTON, Ga. - Whitfield leaders this morning inked a deal to sell 16 acres of land in the Carbondale Business Park to an adhesives company that does business in the flooring industry.

XL Brands, which already operates three plants in Northwest Georgia, will consolidate its operations and move into the 184-acre park. XL already employs about 50 people at plants in Whitfield and Gordon counties, and those jobs will transfer to the new site.

On Tuesday, the company brought a $401,000 cashier's check to the Dalton-Whitfield Joint Development Authority to close the deal. They received no tax incentives to locate in the county, said County Commission Chairman Mike Babb.

XL Brands Vice President Joe Tuttolomondo said the company has plans to grow, add more employees and eventually double its presence in the Carbondale park. Current plans call for a 122,000-square-foot building at the rear of the first phase of the business park, which is located just off Interstate 75.

"Our commissioners understand the importance of getting the 'first' tenant into the park, which is often very hard to do," said Andy Walker, chairman of the development authority.

The development authority has been marketing the park heavily since the county first purchased the land in January 2010. In all, the county spent $5.85 million for 184 acres off Exit 326 in southern Whitfield County.
