Construction on the new bridge at Shallowford Road over South Chickamauga Creek will force the current bridge being used by motorists down to one lane starting Monday.
From Monday through Wednesday, crews will be setting beams on the new bridge, forcing the contractor to intermittently close one lane of the existing adjacent bridge now in use by motorists, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation. The bridges are located near the Airport Road intersection.
The temporary closures will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day, TDOT said, but one lane of traffic will remain open at all times, and flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control.
The project is scheduled to be finished in June 2012.
