Extreme Makeover: Home Edition finally began bringing down the house in Rossville with one swipe from a excavator about ten minutes before 3 p.m. The crowd of volunteers cheered as the house crackled and splintered like a bag of potato chips under pressure from the machinery. Half a dozen strikes later the house was turned to wreckage, drawing the loudest applause from the crowd. Film crews continue to document the destruction as the equipment slammed the debris into finer and finer pieces. Just before the destruction, the cast and crew staged smaller demolitions, keeping with the superhero theme of the build. At about 3:15 p.m. camera crews continued to film the excavator as it picked up debris 25 feet in the air before dropping it back into the pile.
1:34 p.m.
The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition crew blew out a window on the front of the house for a shot that will be used in the show. Everyone was backed away from the house at 1:30 p.m. Four minutes later, with a boom and a flash, the glass was blown out into the yard.
12:55 p.m.
Volunteers, media members and crew have been ordered to move up or down the street behind caution tape and crews appear to be making the last preparations for demolition.
12:14 p.m.
The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host Ty Pennington introduced new cast members just before noon. During three takes of filming, Pennington introduced the "Legion of Demo" consisting of Xplosives, H2Xol, Forti-Tuohy, and the English Muffin. Celebrity designers Xzibit, Eduardo Sol, Leigh Anne Tuohy and London-born Ed Sanders have worn capes, masks and muscle suits to give the show a heroic flavor. Crews as of 12:20 p.m. have not begun exterior demolition but volunteers continue to set up barricades.
11:32 a.m.
The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Build in Rossville has taken on a superhero flair as designers Ed Sanders, Xzibit and Eduardo Sol have donned capes, face masks and fake muscle suits.
Moments ago pyrotechnics crew members fired several fireworks inside the home. Volunteers have started assembling barricades and a crew member told media members they would have to leave before crews started shooting "the bombs". No other details were immediately available.
10:20 a.m.
Volunteers continue to stream in and out of the soon-to-be demolished house in Rossville that is the center of this week's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Build.
Show offficials have not said how the home will be demolished but Catoosa County firefighters are on scene and smoke is coming out of one of the windows as of 10:20 a.m.
A bulldozer is stationed behind the house and everyone close to the house, including host Ty Pennington, is required to wear a hard hat.
9:27 a.m.
Crews worked late into the night packing up Michael and Cindy Sharrock's house for the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Build in Rossville and appear ready for another long day today.
Neighbors around the house said filming wrapped about 8 p.m. Sunday.
A tree service broke down a large tree in the front yard of the house and crews worked well after dark boxing up and moving out the family belongings.
"They were still packing when I turned in," said neighbor Johnny Clark.
Officials at the scene said about 80 volunteers were on site this morning.
Around 9:15, volunteers moved a couch and night stand back into the house but all of the belongings the family wants to keep have been moved out.
Officials had initially talked about demolition beginning at 9 a.m. today but the tear-down has been pushed back until at least noon.
The popular television show notified the Sharrock family Sunday that they had been chosen to receive a new home. The Sharrock's 9-year-old son, Patrick, has brittle bone disease. The main focus of this week's project will be to build a home safe for Patrick.
Sarah Strid, a spokeswoman for the show, said the Sharrock family who own the house being rebuilt, stayed in the Chattanooga area last night and will fly out for Disney World at noon today.
Celebrity designers Eduardo Sol, Ed Sanders, Leigh Anne Tuohy and Xzibit arrived on set arround 9:30 a.m. this morning and were getting set to film a scene before the demolition.
Their house at 179 Monahaw Ave. is just inside Catoosa County near Lakeview Drive but has a Rossville address.
The main focus of the project will be building a house safe for Patrick, who has brittle bone disease. The disorder makes his bones very fragile, and his parents said the 50-year-old, 1,000 square-foot house is to blame for a few of the 59 fractures he's had during his life.
