Battlefield chief to speak tonight
Cathy Cook, new superintendent of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, will be the guest speaker at tonight's Catoosa County Historical Society meeting.
Cook, former superintendent of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, will discuss her vision for the battlefield park and the long-range plans that are being made. The park will be celebrating its 150th year soon.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the Old Stone Church Museum at the intersection of U.S. Highway 41 and Georgia Highway 2, south of Ringgold, Ga.
The public is invited for the meeting and social hour afterward.

Snow won't affect spring break time
Spring break will not be affected if there are more snow days this winter, said Bradley County School Director Johnny McDaniel.
"A lot of families plan their vacations around spring break, sometimes a year in advance,'' McDaniel said.
Bradley County schools have used up their stockpiled snow days, McDaniel said. If more snow forces classes to be canceled, the school board either will hold classes on some other scheduled day off or add a day to the school year.

City offers ACT prep workshop
The Athens Parks and Recreation Department is offering an ACT prep workshop from noon to 5 p.m. March 5.
The workshop is designed to help students take an individualized study approach to the new ACT test. The class is $150, and the instructor is Diane Bruce.
"Any parent with a student preparing for college quickly learns the importance of the ACT score," said Austin Fesmire, director of Parks and Recreation. "Diane has put together a comprehensive course so that first-time test takers will know what to expect and those retaking the test will learn how to improve."
This class offers a review of English, math, reading, science reasoning and writing. Students will leave with a personal study plan, extra retired tests and a workbook with explanatory answers to each test question.

Senator's brother gets grant job
The brother of state Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers has been hired as a communications specialist for a federally funded education program.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Sunday that Jon Rogers gave up his post as chief of staff for his brother and will be paid $75,000 annually to oversee publications and promote Georgia's $400 million Race to the Top grant.
Jon Rogers said he's qualified for the job.
Georgia Department of Education spokesman Matt Cardoza said the senator had no input in the hiring.
