HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Hundreds of pounds of prescription drugs were turned in to Alabama officials during a Drug Take Back event.

Law enforcement officials across Madison County said the event on Saturday aimed to keep the prescription drugs from getting into the wrong hands.

Madison Police Chief Larry Munci said the pills can make their way "onto the streets, into schools and some are very lethal."

The officials collected 843 pounds of medicine from locations in Huntsville, Madison and Monrovia. The drugs will be packaged and taken to an incinerator.
