Emergency units seek volunteers
The Whitfield County Emergency Management Agency is looking for volunteers to help start its community emergency response team program.
The program is designed for Whitfield County residents to train themselves for emergencies and disasters in the community, a news release states.
The training course, free for county residents, consists of three training days. At the end of the training, a mock disaster drill will be held and participants will be certified.
The classes are scheduled for March 12, 13 and 19 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 804 Professional Blvd., Dalton, Ga.

Obedience Club offers classes
The Obedience Club of Chattanooga will hold registration for obedience, rally and new agility classes for puppies and dogs on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Agility I and II Fundamentals indoor classes will be offered. Bring a copy of shot records to registration.
During registration, various club dog/handler teams will present training demonstrations. Classes begin tonight.
The club is four miles south of Chattanooga on Highway 193 in Flintstone, Ga.

DeKalb officer in fatal wreck
Two people were killed when an on-duty DeKalb County police officer collided with their vehicle Saturday night.
County Public Safety Director William Miller told WGCL-TV the crash occurred at a busy intersection in Avondale Estates. He said the officer was taken to a hospital for observation but was all right.
Miller said authorities are investigating. The medical examiner has not released the victims' names.
4 teens are shot at 'Sweet 16' party
Gwinnett County authorities are investigating a shooting at a "Sweet 16" birthday party that left four teenagers shot and another grazed by shrapnel.
The Gwinnett County Police Department said the gunman began shooting "randomly" into the suburban home around 11 p.m. Saturday where about 50 people had gathered for the party.
The department said Sunday that officers were following up on leads but had yet to identify a suspect. It said the shooting may be linked to gang or drug activity, but no solid connections can be made yet.
Investigators said only one of the shooting injuries was deemed serious, and none was considered life threatening. The department said the victims had been treated and released from Gwinnett Medical Center.
