File suit to get money for schools

Re: "Fight the commissioners," (Times editorial, Feb. 17). I like the idea of getting the money from Hamilton County. Get a school board member to file a lawsuit on behalf of the students in his or her district. I don't understand why (Superintendent) Jim Scales, who is under a lot of pressure for all kinds of good things he has done, should take the heat for the school board. The school board should get the money. Get Chairman Fairchild to file the suit.

The Chattanooga Times on behalf of employees who have students in the Hamilton County schools should file the lawsuit. If not the newspaper, I believe the citizens of Hamilton County should file a class action lawsuit against the county or a recall referendum. Making Jim Scales the point on this action is putting him in an untenable situation.

As a Georgia resident, I am not a person with standing who can sue Hamilton County.

Anti-labor moves may affect all

In the state of Wisconsin, the new Republican governor is trying to abolish the states' union workers and their organizations.

In Tennessee, the same thing is happening with new Gov. Bill Haslam.

Haslam also has abolished a whole lot of rules and regulations put forth by the former governor.

Strangely enough, lots of these rules directly affected his businesses. What do we make of this?

Do you know that one of the first things Adolf Hitler did when he took power was abolish all labor unions? This happened in 1933. It is a proven fact that the Republican Party and all its cohorts despise unions. Why is that? Is it because they cannot control these workers if they are protected by unions? I would have to say yes.

What can we do about it? Not much. But watch out, we all may be affected by these actions in ways we wouldn't like.

Social Security has had 'cuts'

Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., (said): "Because Social Security is not (part of the) problem we have in America with the deficit," there should be no cuts.

Funny? I haven't had a cost-of-living raise for the last two years. I believe that is a cut. Sounds like election year talk to me.
