Chattanooga home sales still inconsistent

January home sales in the Chattanooga area decreased 28.1 percent to 307 units, down from 427 in December, according to the Greater Chattanooga Association of Realtors.

Still, sales rose 2.7 percent from January 2010, when only 299 homes were sold.

The median price of a home fell in January to $132,900, down from $137,000 in December 2010 but well up from $119,500 in January 2010.

The number of days a home remained on the market before a sale fell to 138, down from 145 in December.

As a percentage of sales, foreclosures remained high, at 33.2 percent.
