DUNALP, Tenn. - Murder charges against a Sequatchie County man and woman will now go before the grand jury which will decide if the case should go to trial.

Sequatchie County General Sessions Court Judge L. Thomas Austin on Wednesday bound over charges of felony murder, especially aggravated robbery and setting fire to personal property.

Susan L. Baker and co-defendant Thomas Bryan Bettis, both 35, have been charged in connection with Clifford M. Carden Jr.'s death, authorities said. Authorities believe Baker pulled the trigger.

Carden's body was found floating in the Sequatchie River on Feb. 3. He had been shot in the head. His burned-out car was found about 10 miles away on Savage Point Road.

Baker had romantic relationships with both Carden and Bettis, but the motive in the killing was Carden's money, Assistant District Attorney Steve Strain said last week in court.

Baker is being held on $150,000 bond and Bettis is being held on $100,000. They were still in custody Wednesday afternoon.
