Mocs win in overtime

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga beat Samford 77-72 in overtime on Saturday evening.

The Mocs’ win, combined with a win by Western Carolina over the College of Charleston, means UTC and WCU will share the Southern Conference North Division title.

Based on WCU’s sweep of Appalachian State, the Catamounts will have the No. 1 seed from the North Division and the Mocs will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament which begins Friday in McKenzie Arena.

Keegan Bell led the Mocs with 25 ponts and Ricky Taylor added 14 points.

Josh Bedwell and Andy King each had 14 points for the Bulldogs.

The Mocs trailed 34-31 at halftime. UTC recovered to take two different seven-point leads in the second half. But Samford out-scored the Mocs 10-7 over the final four minutes of regulation.

Bell missed a 3-pointer with five seconds to go and Samford missed a half-court heave at the buzzer.

In overtime, Bell scored eight of UTC’s twelve points.
