Chattanooga: Council will not reopen budget for take-home cars

Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlfield told city councilmen today there is no money in the budget for police take-home cars.

"There is no hidden pot of money," he said while speaking at a committee meeting.

Littlefield talked at length about take-home cars for Chattanooga police officers. The city has proposed charging a fee for officers wishing to take their patrol cars home and some officers have decided to park the cars rather than pay the fee.

Several officers plan to speak on the issue tonight during the council's regularly scheduled business meeting.

City Council members said today before the start of committee meetings that they would not re-open the budget to find money for the cars.
