Weekend meeting set to pick new Whitfield boss

Whitfield County Commissioners will gather in closed-door meetings Saturday to work on selecting a new county administrator.

Commission Chairman Mike Babb said the county may name a new top boss by the middle of the week, but they will interview three candidates on Saturday and another candidate at the first of the week.

Georgia law allows deliberations involving personnel decisions to be conducted behind closed doors, but votes on any personnel matter must be held during an open session.

Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at their normal location, Administrative Building 1 in Dalton, Ga. No time has been set for the Monday interview.

The position has been vacant since the first of the year when Bob McLeod left after roughly four years.

The county administrator runs the county's day-to-day business and answers to the commission. The job was advertised with a pay range of $85,000 to $125,000.
