Tennessee Democrats re-elect Chip Forrester

NASHVILLE -- Chip Forrester was re-elected Saturday as chairman of the Tennessee Democratic Party by members of the executive committee.

Forrester won on the first ballot with 38 votes. Matt Kuhn came in second with 17 votes, and former state party spokesman Wade Munday got 10 votes.

Much of the campaign focused on Democrats' devastating losses in November, when Republicans swept the governorship and gained control of both houses of the Legislature for the first time since 1869.

Some committee members and major party donors called for new blood in the party leadership, but Forrester maintained the confidence of a majority of the committee and held on to the post.
