Featured during February at In-Town Gallery are Bradley Wilson and Stacie Florer. Their exhibit, "Opposites Attract," opens Tuesday and explores the theme of mirror images with a twist on Valentine's Day.
Wilson's monotypes and acrylic paintings are composed of pairs of hearts, animal and figurative forms. He has incorporated handwritten text into his colorful and gestural works.
"The challenge was to create a dynamic composition with energy and movement in what is, by definition, a static compositional format," Wilson says in his artist's statement.
Florer is a jeweler who designed earrings using copper and sterling silver as opposing metals. She "bent the rules" with these matched pairs in terms of texture and form.
"At first glance, my earrings look like a perfectly matched pair, but then as you examine them further you will notice that they are quite the opposite," she said.
A reception will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., and special music will be provided by Carolyn Insler and Beth Blackburn.
In-Town Gallery, 26 Frazier Ave., is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Call 267-9214.
