DAHLONEGA, Ga.
The Georgia Chapter of the Trail of Tears Association, in partnership with the Georgia Appalachian Studies Center, will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Hoag Auditorium on the campus of North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega.
Dahlonega is well-known for the gold rush in the early 1800s, which was one of the factors contributing to the forced expulsion of the Cherokee Indians from Georgia.
The speaker is Don Wells, president of the nonprofit organization Mountain Stewards. He will speak about trail mapping efforts in the Southern Appalachian mountains, particularly the trails used by Native Americans. For more information about this organization, visit www.mountainstewards.org.

An attorney suspended in 2007 and later convicted of two counts of forgery has been disbarred by the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Damon Jarrid Lee was convicted in September 2007 of forgery under $1,000 and forgery over $1,000, according to a news release from the Supreme Court's Board of Professional Responsibility. The court suspended him in November of that year and the disbarment is retroactive to that date, the release stated.
Lee could be reinstated if he pays the board's costs and expenses and meets Supreme Court requirements, according to the release.
Sandy Springs, Ga.
Authorities say a cyclist is dead after he was struck by a car in suburban Atlanta.
Authorities say 52-year-old Bryan Morgan, of Marietta, was biking in Sandy Springs when he was hit by a Toyota Camry. Police say they are questioning the woman driving the car.
Her name has not been released.
Authorities do not believe alcohol played a role in the accident.
