Volkswagen officials said today that the increase in Passat production is ongoing, as the Chattanooga plant assembled a new high of 140 cars in one day, last Friday.

Frank Fischer, chief executive of Volkswagen's Chattanooga operations, said the gearing up of production is "quite challenging."

He said plans are to push production levels to 460 cars per day in the fourth quarter of 2011.

"There's room for more," he said.
