That's interesting. Terrorize citizens and get suspended with pay.

Plus, isn't there something about the destruction of government property? In another article it states they broke a tenants window in E. Lake Courts as her children were sleeping inside. Public housing is federal government.

When will people undertsand that because one is not "on the clock" does not mean one can bring dishonor to their profession? I have no idea whether Smiley is black or white and that really is not the issue here. If in his private time he holds a disregard for humanity, why is he charged with helping to save lives? In cases like this, employees and officials should be suspended without pay with back pay available only if proven innocent of the charge. I once witnessed a shooting in a neighborhood bar in another town. I saw ambulance drivers slowly approach the scene even honoring a red light two blocks away with no one on the streets at about 1 a.m. in apparent belief that the victim was of the same race as the neighborhood. This changed to a full blown emergency for them when, upon arrival, they realized the victim had been shot by his wife and there was no racial divide from the emergency personnel. There was no other way to explain it as witnessed in action. Sad commentary, indeed.

Blassmike, all three are white. If Smiley feels this way about blacks and other ethnic groups, I cringe to think what he's done to people of other ethnicities he's had to transport and provide medical attention as an EMT. Especially if they were unconcious or even dead. Scary the people America has allowed to infiltrate such highly sensitive positions where they can possibly control the freedom, life and death of another human being.

If he is found guilty of these charges, the county must immediately fire this employee.

NoMyth, in cases like this where the culprits are caught red handed, Smiley should have been fired immediately. He shouldn't even be suspended with pay. He's a disgrace and dishonor to the good name and profession of all EMT workers who have pledge a dedication and mission to save lives, not wreak havoc on and destroy lives. At 27 years of age, Smiley is not a child making a juvenile prank. What these three did was dangerous, and could have caused a serious and deadly fire where someone could have lost their life.

PR, your passion is felt but your tone is overbearing. It should expand beyond what is black or white to what is right. Brokentoe, you are correct in your theory. There are times when common sense should prevail. This is one. If for some unimaginable reason Smiley is vindicated, reach back and return his lost wages. Suspension with pay rewards stupid acts such as these allowing the perpetrators to believe in their own ignorance.

You know, whites shouting and carrying on in a black neighborhood was not a good thing...or a particularly smart thing...but punishment is on its way. There were no reported injuries or property damage.

Now compare that to this case that also happened on the evening of the 4th... ... not a whisper about this mob action will be written by the liberal press [such as the TFP]. And that is not at all unusual.

But I would say one racial group beating a different racial group bloody -- including women -- while ransacking a convenience store is not a particularly nice thing, either. And no police action was taken toward the group doing the beating/ransacking, no reports were written, no witness statements were recorded...nothing. 'Course that way, the police can say that nothing happened. No investigation will occur, either. And that is not unusual, was blacks beating whites, you see.

Ever wonder why the Lame Stream Media detests the Internet the way they do? The above cite is only one reason why...because it exposes the perfidy of the fourth estate.

Rolando! Get real. That was a horrible incident in Milwaukee and should never have occurred. But the TFP is a regional paper that cannot and should not be held accountable for not reporting one of countless incidents that occurred on that day (or any day) in other parts of the country. If it happens here and TFP is remiss in reporting, that's another thing. I beg to differ on your assumptive narative that blacks are not investigated. Then again, maybe you are right! Good investigating would release many blacks from the wrongful convictions they have, do, and will continue to receive. For every deserving incarceration of a black man or woman (and there are many) there lies an undeserving one that was forged from racist attitudes, economic deprivement, or flagrant oversight.

Actually rolando, there was property damage to federal property. A tenants window was broken while her children were sleeping when fireworks were thrown and hit the window. Not to mention the potential for a serious and deadly fire in this dry weather. It's not about what didn't happen, but all the things that could have. Furthermore, people have been charged with more, even having terroristic charges levied at them, for committing far less than what these idiots did.

Here we have people of all shades, races and religions being sent away to fight in other countries, and you have these fools acting like they're back in Chattanooga's openly segregated and racist 1960s and prior. They deserve no pity, especially the one who claims to be an EMT. Her's an embarassment to the profession.

Regardless of any Chattanoogan's race, all Chattanoogans should be outraged. Why there's only one charge for each is puzzling. Are even police trying to minimize the crime by bringing only one charge? If so, why?

There's one thing for certain, America is both a diverse nation with lots of equally diverse hate to go around. Why not address that instead of trying to justify and make excuses?

rolando, the below story remained local and never made national news either.

These guys are are lucky they didn't get a couple hot ones in their butts over in the East Lake courts, police might have saved their lives by catching them.

In my many travels I stopped telling people a long time ago that I once lived in Chattanooga. There are still people in other states and even other countries who continue to believe Chattanooga still hang black people from trees, burn down and chase them from their homes in the middle of the night and burn crosses in their yards. It's embarassing.

Shameful that our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters of all races are fighting and dying alonside one another in foreign lands so others can get a feel of America's democracy and freedoms; so others can be freed from persecution and not have to live in constant fear, yet America still ignores its own problems of racial injustices committed right here on American soil. What a sham!! No wonder the rest of the world thumbs its nose at US when America preach of its diverse culture and freedoms for ALL.

@Realtalk: They aren't racists - the people they picked on just happened to be black, right? There was a reason they did not go to a predominately white, wealthy part of town. They knew they would not get away with it.
