A Hamilton County paramedic resigned this afternoon after an investigatory hearing stemming from his arrest for civil rights intimidation this Saturday, authorities said.
James Smiley, 27, and two other men are accused of throwing lit fireworks in the direction of East Lake Courts public housing complex while shouting racial slurs at people sitting outside early Saturday morning.

The three were arrested shortly after they drove away from the complex. Fireworks were still in their truck bed, and they admitted to the harassment, according to a court affidavit.
Colton Partin, 21, and Kyle Montgomery, 21, also face charges for civil rights intimidation, which can carry a felony sentence.
