Dalton man turns himself in, accused of stealing money

A Dalton man who police believe stole cash off the counter in a local restaurant early Sunday morning turned himself in.

Ulysis Garcia-Jacobo, 24, was a local customer at Los Caporales and he was the last customer in the building Sunday night, said Dalton police spokesman Bruce Frazier.

Garcia-Jacobo now is in custody at the Whitfield County Jail, charged with felony theft by taking, Frazier said.

An employee at the restaurant began counting the money in the register about 12:45 a.m., then left the money unattended for several minutes, Frazier said. When the employee returned, the money was gone, he said.

Surveillance video showed Garcia-Jacobo walk up to the counter, look around the room, then take the money and leave, Frazier said.
