Chattanooga police are asking for help identifying a man who robbed two banks in Hixson.

The first robbery occurred on April 26 about 11:30 a.m. at the SunTrust at 1969 Northpoint Blvd., said police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary. A man walked in with a handgun, which he pointed at numerous employees, then jumped the counter and emptied a money drawer, Weary said. He fled on foot with more than $2,000 in cash, she said.

The second robbery occurred on May 23 about 9:30 a.m. in the Regions Bank at 3894 Hixson Pike, Weary said. A man entered with a handgun and demanded money, she said. He ordered all the customers and employees into the vault and closed the door before fleeing the area with an undetermined amount of cash, she said.

Police believe the same man robbed both banks.

He is described as being about 6 foot 3 or 6 foot 4 and about 240 pounds.

In one robbery, he wore a black ski mask, khaki pants, a long-sleeve blue shirt with white horizontal stripes, a sleeveless jacket and a pair of what appeared to be gardening gloves, Weary said.

In the other robbery, he wore large sunglasses, a dark olive-colored hooded sweatshirt and a white "allergy"-type face mask, she said.
